Part of my New Years Revelations was to read 50 books this year. I few days ago I finished my first book and thought I would share it with all of you.
I saw this book when I was scouting Amazon for Tri books and thought... well if ever there was a book made for me this is the one.
The book is a funny read. When I imagine Jayne Williams I'm pretty sure her and I could hang out over mexican food and get silly drunk on margaritas. Her style and sarcasm is much like my own.
When you read the reviews there is some complaining that there isn't much in the way of a training plan and that is kind of true, she give a very general idea of what you need to do to train. That being said when I picked this book out, The SLOW FAT Triathlete, I wasn't exactly expecting a book full of training programs. Just saying.
The book was inspirational and practical for us Big Girls. She talks about the nitty gritty that no one likes to mention in those super duper, "I run Ironman races everyday as my training" kind of books. (read:peeing and chafing)
She also gives sound practical advice and if you know nothing about triathlons this book is perfect. I knew the triathlon basics but I still found I took a lot away from here.
My only complaint is that she did get a bit redundant in some of the things she mentioned. Nothing to turn me off the book completely though.
If you're a chubby girl and want to not feel self conscious about wanting to do a tri or any race this is a nice little pick me up. Do it, you'll be glad you did.
